PCHC’s Dental Center has a total of 43 operatories, 11 dentists and residents, 12 hygienists, and 24 dental assistants. PCHC is staffed by more than 800 employees who serve almost 65,000 patients annually.

The dental practice is integrated with our other primary care services and is located on the same health campus as several other PCHC practices. PCHC patients at family medicine, pediatrics, or medical specialty appointments on our campus are asked if they have a dentist and if not, they are encouraged to make an appointment that same day. The scheduling system is linked to all practices. On occasion, patients are actually walked from our Pediatric Center over to the Dental Center for care of injuries. Dentists often consult with PCHC physicians and they in turn consult with PCHC dentists regarding patient care.

PCHC cares for about 65,000 patients throughout the state of Maine, and provided over 310,000 patient visits in 2017. We are always open to new patients. PCHC currently has 16 primary care practices and 800 employees, 200 of which are providers. The practices include one dental center, a public housing clinic, three school-based health centers, and a health clinic and a shelter dedicated to homeless and peri-homeless individuals. Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residents will gain valuable experience from all of these.

PCHC offers a Patient Centered Medical Home model of highly integrated care. We have more than one mental health provider for every two medical providers and all are embedded in our medical practices. There is one dentist for every five medical providers; one physical therapist for every five medical providers; one pharmacist for every 10 medical providers; and one RN care manager or health coach for every six medical providers. Beyond family medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, psychiatry, mental health, and dental care, patients across all of our practices and clinics have access to specialty services through physician referral that includes a high-complexity laboratory, physical therapy, digital radiology, 340B pharmacies, addictions medicine, GYN/women’s health, podiatry, dermatology, wound care, pain management, osteopathic manipulation therapy, chiropractic, speech therapy, audiology, optometry, allergy care, and nutrition counseling.

PCHC is the only Federally Qualified Health Center in the greater Bangor region. Unlike most providers in the area, we regularly add new patients and promptly see low income persons and those on Medicaid and Medicare.

PCHC's twelve-month residency is specifically focused on increasing the clinical knowledge, skills, and experience of new family nurse practitioners, providing them with a positive transitional experience from school to practice, and an opportunity to fine-tune skills under the guidance of an experienced mentor.
